So the final game of the season and mine as manager of the Saturday Spartans. A boiling hot day at Kowloon Tsai saw us take on competition leaders Hamsap who only needed a draw to win the title. Our team in recent weeks has gone a transformation with many new players coming into the squad however these players have bough much enthusiasm and skill to the team. Lack of taxis and general delays saw most of us arrive about 5 minutes before kick-off while the full Hamsap team where warming up ages ago, seems like little has changed in the Spartans makeup. We knew this was always going to be a tough game however we had a decent team and I thought we had a good chance to win this.

Goal: Macca
With the season passed and gone and playing for a top two/three finish our second last game was against the always tough Mes Amis side. Hosting arguable one of Hong Kongs best players in Carlo Dilbero we knew this would be a tight affair.
Once again struggling for numbers we went to the game with 14 players with a few 50/50s who in the end couldn't make it. Matters were made worse when Rob went to Happy Valley instead leaving us down to 13.

This was an emotional moment for me. My last game for the Sunday Spartans and following the last few weeks whereby it has been tough to get a full team on the pitch, I was glad to see that we had a few extra subs.
It had pissed down all night long and there were a few anxious SMS asking whether game would go ahead. Fortunately, the weather improved and we arrived at KGV, which was still very sodden with few surface puddles. The sun was threatening to appear, which made the pitch surface rise in temperature as the humidity increased. Lionel with Iphone handy, got a few snaps commemorating my last appearance.

Goals: Macca, Aidan, Jeff C and Coombs
A brilliant performance by everyone on Friday night totally destroyed USRC and possibly the best game we have had all year. The first half football was truly outstanding and we pretty much followed the same in the second half. USRC chasing shadows for much of the game had no answer to our sublime football on show.

With a few pullouts and no goalkeeper and others trying to contact our Manager (who’s enjoying the sun in Phuket), we ended up with ONLY 10 players on a rain drenched Happy Valley pitch 6. Pat calls Chi and asks him to come down.
Henry agrees to goal in goals for the first half, so we start off with a kinda diamond formation with Mike, Danny and Sanj the back three. Cowley, Hao, Flabbo and Lionel make up the midfield quartet with Pete roaming between the midfield and Pat up front.

Not really sure where to start with this report. On the Friday I had just about enough players and relying on players to come through games on the Saturday. Come Sunday morning I get the call offs and realize I only have 8 players and no goalkeepers. I call around frantically, but only Oli is able to alter his plans and join the party.
9 players. This is the first time as Manager of the Sunday team, I’ve been put in this situation and utterly frustrated and embarrassed that with an outside chance of promotion, we can only field 9 players.
